Two Finished Paintings

Today I finally finished the small painting of the talented videographer who finds himself in the Eagle Nebula, which has been shown in earlier posts when it was almost done:

"Shooting Stars"

13 x 16 colored pencil, pastel, graphite, acrylic (for the stars) on plywood

Then a larger one was finished, too! This one started out as a very realistic interior drawing/painting but, being that it was me wielding the pencils, pastels and paint it became what it is. I have been, for years, looking at Architectural Digest upside down just for the colors and patterns so, I suppose, something like this was going to happen sooner or later.

"Little Universes Moving Through"

These two went to Synchronicity Gallery in Glen Arbor, MI, today - Tuesday, July 16th. I've sold so many paintings from the gallery already this season that I needed to bring them some more!

I've been selected to be in an all abstract art show at the Oliver Art Center in Frankfort, MI, in early spring of 2020. "Little Universes" will go to that show if it's still available.

Oldies Again - Drawings and Paintings from 2011

The paintings below were created using painted colored pencil, oil and acrylic paint and sometimes pastels on canvas or plywood. They range from 16" x 20" to 20" x 48" or so.

Shall I or Shall I Not?

Today I photoshopped the artist silhouette and scaffolding over the "Sea Horse Nebula" painting as it is, just to see how this idea might look. I love seeing the painting as such a large entity. And I would love to communicate that we are not only part of everything, we are also co-creators; we just have to realize and accept our power.

New Paintings for 2019

Continuing on from the idea of drawing people into nebulae and the stars, I have a couple more paintings that just got done. They were drawn/painted using a different technique and different materials than usual. First I drew a very detailed black and white drawing using graphite and charcoal. This was sprayed with a casein fixative. Then I put the colors in using pastels. This was again protected with the same fixative. After several more layers of color, perfecting details and adding stars the paintings were given a final coat of varnish.

"Shooting Stars" - short title 12.5" x 16" pencil, charcoal, pastel and acrylic on plywood

Long title is: "A talented videographer wanders the streets of Brooklyn, looking for inspiration. Turning a corner he finds himself surrounded by part of the Eagle Nebula and thinks, 'Wow, . . . . . !!"

The painting below is an intaglio print (black and white) on paper, glued to a canvas, colored with pencil and starred with acrylic. It is called, "Dragon Prism" and is 8" x 10".

Different from the above - "Dark Wave Moon" is much larger and more abstract. For almost a year I was trying to paint this canvas as a vertical sun with halo and storm clouds moving in but it just did not seem like the right painting. So, a few weeks ago I splashed marble dust whiteness in a wave pattern over it, now in the horizontal. After finishing the nebula paintings I decided to have fun with this painting and give it the wave colors of the water around Frankfort - the beautiful greens, blues and purples. Here is what happened:
