May Show at the Gallery Uptown in Grand Haven

From May 2 through May 25, the "May Meditations" Show at the Gallery Uptown in Grand Haven will include a few of my paintings along with the artwork of Bette DelVecchio, Ele Goudreau, Marc Hoeksma, Jill Jeltema, Jasmine Dawn Rogers, Julie Sanford, Hana Sawyer, Mary Sundstrom, and  Dave Warmenhoven!  The reception for the show is Friday, May 4th, from 5:30 to 8.

Below are the paintings of mine that will be in the show.  Remember, too, that I am now selling prints of my paintings online through the two websites Society6 and Deviant Art

"Leaf Shadows" 20 x 44  acrylic, oil and colored pencil on canvas
As I was finishing up this painting (no leaves on it, yet) on the deck of one of our dwellings, I noticed the leaf shadows when standing back to critique the painting.  I drew them onto the painting as exactly as possible from the shadows that were there.

"Orange Cloud Sunset - Lake Michigan"  15 x 60   acrylic on plywood
This is from a photo taken at the Lake Michigan beach in Hoffmaster State Park. In the photo the lake was black but I decided a deep blue would be a prettier, more interesting color.  It was difficult to keep this painting just the sunset and not add in designs and dancers and other such things that most of my paintings have.  I have to do things that are different for me from time to time.

"Homage to the Rising Suns"  12 x 37   ink, acrylic and colored pencil on plywood
Behind the colors are many birds, one person and lots of suns or moons or planets and designs.

"At the Museum of Other Worlds"  16 x 20   acrylic, oil and colored pencil on canvas
This painting is the second in the "Looking Through Windows" series.  I have wonderful images/dreams come into my mind of looking through a very large window or window opening and gazing out on hills and clouds or sunsets and space.  The nebulas and stars appeared quite on their own in this painting.

"Raiment of the Earth"  18 x 22   colored pencil and acrylic on canvas
This painting turned out to be a fun time with mostly drawing with well-sharpened black colored pencil.  After applying acrylic medium over the lines I added color with acrylic washes. The lines remind me of all the intricate designs of shadow and light I see in leaves and bark, branches and grasses.

That's all for now . . . Thank you for visiting and perusing.  Hope you enjoy looking at the pictures as much as I enjoy creating them.

New Paintings at Synchonicity Gallery in Glen Arbor

Monday, the 23rd, we took six interesting paintings up to Synchronicity Gallery.  Dave, the owner, said he loved them and wanted to keep them all - thank you Dave and all the others who keep that wonderful gallery going!
I am in the process of uploading these images and more to two different websites that sell prints of the artwork and, on the Society6 website, they also sell many other items with the artwork on them.  The two sites are:  society6.com and deviantart.com.
Here are the paintings:

"Dancing Up a Storm" 18 x 22  mixed media on canvas
One of my smaller paintings with one or more dancer behind the colors, which are based on part of some nebula out there.

"Emergence" 27x 29  mixed media on plywood
Based on a colorful photo of the Orion Nebula (looks like a bright star in the sword part of the Orion constellation).  Behind the colors are myriad lines and designs, which I just had to draw in for some reason.  They do not show up in the photo.

"Night of the Barred" 18 x 54  oil and acrylic on canvas
Named after the Barred Owl in the picture.  There's also a "moon dog" (as opposed to a sun dog).
 SOLD!
"Purple Sky Pines" 18 x 54  oil and acrylic on canvas with acrylic modeling paste for texture
The sky colors are from a sunset seen from our hill and the Norway Spruce and White Pines all around.
 SOLD!
"Star Shadows" 36 x 48  mixed media on canvas
Based on a photo of the three stars in the belt of Orion.  I named it "Star Shadows" so you will look behind the stars and see what formed there quite on its (or their) own.  Also, I found out after giving it this name that Star Shadows is the name of a Remote Observatory (SSRO) South, located in Chile.  It is currently operated by Steve Mazlin, Warren Keller, Mark Hanson, Rex Parker, and Tommy Tse as a joint venture with Dr. Daniel Reichart of the Department of Astronomy and Physics, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Their website has lots of great images of nebulas and such: http://www.starshadows.com/gallery/  .

The painting below is "Wild Night at the Planetarium" 14 x 24  mixed media on canvas.  I put in five dancers; you may find more.
